Marine Gardens Bowling Club - Pre-Season Get Together Meeting

(March 26, 2019)

“On 26/03/19 Marine Gardens Bowling Club held its pre-season meeting with over 60 members packing the church hall in Barrington Road. New recruits gained over the winter were welcomed and Club Captain Michael Ives confirmed his charity as “Meningitis Now”. Money raised from events over the season; in particular the Fun Day on 18/08/19 will go to this very worthy cause.

Fixture Secretary Bob Cole advised that we have 87 matches arranged against other clubs, plus 7 internal games, Monday afternoon drives, Tuesday morning triples league and a full hand of internal knock-out competitions. In short, stacks of opportunity for competitive and purely fun bowls throughout the summer.

Vice-Captain Francis Fahey explained the new handicap system for internal competitions and reassured members that selection for external matches would be done as fairly as possible. All members were encouraged to support these games; some weeks in August would see us playing every day so members needed to keep signing up for consideration.

Club President Jill Colbourn confirmed that we have two Open Days to attract new members; Sunday 5 May from 10am to 3pm and Sunday 26 May 10am to 3pm. Although we have 80 members re-signed from last year, still vital that we seek fresh faces. In closing President Jill wished all members a successful season in all matches / competitions, but stressed the most important thing was to enjoy the game!”

OPEN DAYS – Sunday 5th May & Sunday 26 May; 10am to 3pm. No charge. All equipment provided; club coaches and members will be on hand to welcome anyone who wants to try their hand at the great game of bowls. Free refreshments available. No commitment to join; young, old, experienced player or complete newcomer; all welcome to come and have fun – hopefully in the sun!
