Marine Gardens Bowling Club, report w/ending Sunday, 30th July 2023

(July 30, 2023)

The performance of the Marine Gardens' bowlers mirrored the downturn in the weather during this period. 3 defeats in the Stracey Shield. 1 in the WSBL and 1 in the GSM Ladies League.

There were, however, a few sunny patches amidst the gloom. Clive Wootton, Pamela Chambers, Rod Smith and skip Jim Gray ensured that we did not suffer a whitewash at the hands of Tarring Priory where the overall score was 79-72 in their favour.

Worthing Pavilion registered a more emphatic win (119-54), but again the whitewash was averted by Pamela Chambers, Gerry Perch, John Nettleingham and skip Ivan Godsmark securing a 20-20 draw.

The doubleheader against Arundel saw the men lose 2 - 1 rinks (61-55) to a background of medieval music from the castle with Perry Cairns, Roger Parish, Albert Leatham and skip Mike Collins registering a winning rink for Marine Gardens.
The Ladies however, suffered a very narrow defeat in the GSM League losing on both rinks by only 4 shots, an overall score of 35-39. So close!

This barren period ended in our visitors from Goring Manor gaining a 3 – 1 rinks victory (61-96)  with Tilly Hennings, Barry Cuckow, Angela Neale and skip Duncan Gayler providing a ray of sunshine with a 23 - 18 win.

Roll on the better weather (and results).

Alan Paterson, Press Officer.
