Marine Gardens Bowling Club, report w/ending Sunday, 16th July 2023

(July 16, 2023)

Another well-attended Club Drive saw skip Ivan Godsmark lead his ladies, Valerie Conway, and Doreen Dickson to top rink honours with a 28-8 victory.

Worthing Pavilion were our visitors for a Stracey Shield League match when convincing wins in 2 of the 4 rinks gave the overall victory to Marine Gardens (98-73). Top honours went to John Nettleingham, Ken Leadbeater, Tilly Hennings and skip Jim Gray who contributed 40 valuable shots. Always nice to be on the winning side against Pavilion.

Following the disappointment of having our friendly match at Goring Manor called off due to poor weather we were pleased that the sun shone on our trip to Billingshurst. Unfortunately, high winds resulted in a fallen tree blocking our way. Having surmounted that obstacle, we soon found ourselves coming up a little short on the bowling green. We won on 2 rinks and lost on 2 rinks with Billingshurst claiming overall victory 61-55. Bob Cole, Ken Leadbeater and skip Duncan Gayler were our stars on the day with a 19-15 win.

The clubs’ Triples League is heading towards an exciting finish with only 5 points separating the top 4 teams ...Falcons, Ospreys, Condors, and Kestrels  with only 3 fixtures remaining.

Alan Paterson, Press Officer.
