Marine Gardens Bowling Club – report w/ending Sunday, 14th May 2023.

(May 14, 2023)

Crikey! We have had more weather affected matches this season than in the whole of last year, excluding those affected by elevated temperatures. Remember those happy days?

Our first casualty of the week was our match against Norfolk which was abandoned after 6 ends due to heavy rain/hail. The early tea, however, was much enjoyed and we look forward to a return match in better conditions.

The sun did shine the next day on our match against East Preston who visited us in what is their Centenary Year. We had a very close match, but Marine Gardens did enough to spoil the birthday celebrations by gaining an overall shots victory 83-72,  winning 2 rinks with 1 halved. Pamela Chambers, Albie Marsella and skip Ivan Godsmark claimed the top rink for Marine Gardens with a 25-3. victory.

The rain returned to cause the cancellation of the visit of our friends from Tarring Priory. We did not even have the opportunity to enjoy a cup of tea and a blether.

And so, to our Open Day. Not much sunshine but it was dry and the opportunity to 'have a go' was taken up by an encouraging number of people from the local community, several of whom have expressed a serious interest in joining us as members.

This opportunity will be repeated on Sunday 28th May when we will once again welcome everyone wishing to ‘have a go’ and try this great sport of bowls.

Alan Paterson, Press Officer.
