(September 07, 2019)

“Marine Gardens enjoy bumper week of bowls fun”

Sunday 1 September & Marine Gardens played host to Woodingdean for a friendly match of four rinks. Several of the home side had participated in the thrilling club finals which concluded the day before and perhaps there was an element of fatigue. For while the rinks were evenly shared; two apiece, it was Woodingdean who played more consistently and emerged with a well-deserved win by 75 shots to 61.

Skip Ivan Godsmark was ahead throughout the game and won by 17 shots to 14. Ivan enjoyed good support from a blend of youth & experience, his team being Reg Perkins, Tilly Hennings & Bob Cole.

New skip Steve Davis marshalled his troops with great flair; after 17 ends they were down by 16 shots to 11. But the opposition had scored their last shot as the home rink won the last 4 ends and the game by 17 shots to 16. Steve had unswerving support from Lesley McMurdie, Bill Hebert & Albie Marsella.
